Lindsey named PFL Coach of the Year
The Pioneer Football League announced Monday morning that the league’s coaches have voted USD coach Dale Lindsey Coach of the Year.
USD’s second-year head coach led the Toreros to a 9-3 record and their third PFL championship in the last four seasons. The Toreros earned the PFL’s FCS playoff berth -- a program first -- but could not get past juggernaut Montana in the first round on Saturday.
Lindsey is also a candidate for the Eddie Robinson Award for FCS Coach of the Year.
“It’s a nice honor and an award for the entire USD organization,” Lindsey said in a press release. “I give all the credit to our coaching staff and players. Like I’ve said all along, they are the ones that win the games, not me.”
This marks the fifth time a USD head coach has won the PFL’s top coaching honor. The Toreros have a 17-5 regular season record in two seasons under Lindsey.
The PFL will announce its All-PFL squads on Tuesday.
